It’s one of the most amazing plug and play systems I’ve ever used. It’s the Namco Classics Pac-Man plug and play made by Jakks Pacific.
They don’t make them anymore and they’re more than $100 on Amazon these days. I lucked out and got mine for free. I had just dropped my daughter, Haley, off at daycare and was heading to work. I noticed two plug and plays in front of a house out of the corner of my eye. They were on a table in the house’s front yard with a sign that said “free.”
Apparently the people at this house had just had a garage sale, and they had a table full of free stuff that was leftover. Along with the Pac-Man plug and play, I also got the Ms. Pac-Man version. I can’t believe that they just giving these things away. Some people just don’t know how to Google prices on things. Oh well, their loss is my gain.
When I got home a hooked it up to this CRT broadcast monitor that I have. And, man, do the games on this system look amazing! I’m not a retro gaming snob by any means, so playing these games with an arcade controller and button is just amazing to me. It really looks and feels just like it did back in the arcade. I even hooked up a nice pair of speakers so that I could hear the soundtrack and effect properly. It made a huge difference. The sound work that they put into these old arcade games is just phenomenal!
The games included are Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Rally-X, Galaxian, and my new favorite arcade game, thank to this plug and play, Bosconian.
I love space stations and Bosconian has plenty of them. I mean, you haven’t seen this much space station since playing the game Xenophobe! There’s just so much awesomness going on in this game, and the graphics are great.
About a week ago, I got a used Sharper Image Wonderwall projector for $12. New, they used to sell for $100. I hooked a white bed sheet up to a couple of lighting stands and we were playing Pac-Man and Dig Dug on a 90 inch screen in my backyard.
